Running 15KM

That’s a better start than most resolutions which are more couch to marathon if it kills me, which it often can.
You do 7k no problem but fade out before 10. Issue is basically going to be pace and fatigue, the type of fatigue could be skeleto-muscular, cardio vascular or both.

I spotted you like explosive hockey so you are used to fast paced activity with breaks, so pace will be tough for you, especially when I say, you need to slow down one the longer runs from the start, which you will hate. There is better news but I’ll start by making you hate me, then go on from that.
I don’t know your average pace over 7, but will assume it’s 10k per hour for ease of illustration. What you need to do takes real discipline for a pace runner like you. Drop your pace to 9k per hour or even 8.5 and keep it there consistently throughout your run. This will feel horrible for you because you will know it’s slower than you can manage, but it does increase your distance in the short term, and pace can follow.

Breathing exercises are good but I have yet to find any as effective as good quality interval sessions. My preferred is an extended version of Timmons but that’s me, others will swear by tabata or others. There is no right or wrong just best for you. The mistake some make is to assume a 5 minute interval session is as good as a 30 minute run so they stop doing the runs. Intervals are an accompaniment to other training not a replacement.

Start with this stuff see how it goes and come back. If something didn’t work, tell me what happened and I can tweak it, if something worked but incomes too easy, tell me and we can step it up.
