How to read interval notation?

Hi Folks,

I’m a newbie. I’ve only been riding a couple of weeks trying to get myself into shape. I’ve been reading a lot about interval training, and I have a general understanding of what intervals are. However, I am seeing a number of articles that are using what appears to be a common notation for intervals, but I can’t find any articles that explain the notation. I am seeing notatations such as, “Base, with two 3×15 min. tempo.” I understand what “base,” and “tempo” are, but I do not know what what “3×15” represents.

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
